I’ll never understand why people no matter what they’ve done DO NOT LAWYER UP I’m not defending one thing you’re going to need a lawyer if the police are walking in to your job for sure and usually when your rights are being read to you exercise your right to get a lawyer

The lesson here is that we now live in a complete surveillance state because how tf else did the fbi see her private Snapchat she only sent to 3 people..the level of surveillance required for them to read what this single teacher said in a single town wherever this is at in enough time to prevent this “attack” from happening is scary. Obviously it’s great when they stop something real but just think how little privacy that requires the rest of us to be ok with😳 she said something about pew pewing a student because they shut off her computer in the middle of something important and the fbi wasn’t able to figure out that she wasn’t serious and that is basically a figure of speech that a lot of people use flippantly, but I’m not denying it is problematic these days but damn we really like to ruin ppls lives all the way over stupid harmless mistakes. She didn’t actually threaten anyone or have the means to do what she joked about and I get that tensions were high and this is a serious matter but once the adrenaline dies down and it’s obvious no one is in real danger why do we continue to ruin someone’s life over it when they seem to be a good person otherwise and just spoke/posted/joked/vented without thinking that the fbi was possibly going to read it and freak out. I bet if she knew they were violating her rights by spying on her she wouldn’t have said something like that. I get responding still but I feel like they could have just approached her calmly but it seems like they sent the whole school into chaos and then just want to throw the book at her. The officers were professional and seemingly empathetic I just hate that once they decide something there is never an option to roll things back to a reasonable place. Sure she deserves to lose her job over it and I could support her not being allowed to be in a position of authority around children anymore because she has shown a lapse in judgment, and maybe give her some community service but ruining peoples lives unnecessarily over stupid mistakes that didn’t actually harm anyone is too much imo. She will be a felon now over an inappropriate joke she thought she was privately sending to her bf and roommates.
