@gardening.with.ish: Would this yellow flowered shrub be ok to grow in your garden? A hardy and fast growing plant, the forsythia can get big! It can easily grow to up to 2 metres tall (or 7ft) and those yellow flowers aren’t around all year round and if left unkept, it can spread. But what you can get is luscious thick green foliage in summer, a dense shrub you can shape and an amazing floral display in spring, drought tolerant plant that works well in costal towns and years of joy. Sometimes the fastest growing isn’t the best though #gardeningtips #forsythia #yellowflowers #planttips #shrubs
My Forsythia is very hardy and grow faster. she’s in full sun, I pruned very hard after spring and she grow tall and big.

My opinion is these bloom wayyyyy too early and then look straggly the rest of the year. Plant some limelight hydrangeas instead

Since most of forsythias native range is in China if you live in the US I highly suggest buying a native witch hazel (such as Hamamelis virginiana). Witch hazels also have a beautiful yellow early spring flower display but will provide habitat and food source for our ecosystem and native insects 💚

We bought a house that already had one of these and it's already huge - we assumed it was a tree not a shrub because it's like 2-3m tall. Can we trim it right back? It's a bit leggy if it's supposed to be more shrublike, how harshly can I prune it and when?

They’re beautiful springtime flowers and they look quite attractive when left to makes a big tangled whorl of yellow. I didn’t know they spread easily via fragmentation though.

In winter the bottom of my garden floods (brook) would this be ok for 10+ days in and out of water? We have bamboo, mulberry bush, flamingo tree, nightshade and eucalyptus that are all ok with it

Any recommendations for heavy clay soil that doesn't get a whole lot of sun?

We have it as a natural fence. Don’t plant it anywhere you don’t want an entire wall
