@daniellejmitchell: Arvo vlog: Day 2 of a full factory reset on my picky eater, we are trying an earlier dinner and a dessert before bed. Her picky eating is my fault, but setting boundaries and sticking to them is a working!!
As a speechie who works in fussy eating - 1. Don’t comment on her food/eating. Just model it with your foods. 2. Don’t talk about like it / disliking it, just comment on your textures/smells in a neutral manner. My food is crunchy - let me see if I can hear yours. No telling her to try it. 3. Don’t replace food uneaten. If she can fill up on things like potato mash, she isn’t going to try the new/different things. 4. Make small changes to the food she likes rather than adding absolutely new foods- I.e. add cheese to the potato mash, if she likes crunchy foods - would a sausage roll be an in the middle ground of introducing sausage. I would look up the division of responsibility by Ellyn Satter and it explains the roles of adults and children at mealtimes. A speechie can help work it through for you and rule out any issues with chewing/ swallowing. This is very age appropriate though can be understandably very frustrating. Well done on wanting to tackle this!! 🤍

At least she is trying it that’s brilliant. My step son won’t even try anything, he just tells us he doesn’t like

Nah the sausages make sense!! I’m 29 and still refuse to eat sausages unless I can hide the taste with other foods!!

I know this is probably not gonna make sense but during dinner time we don’t give attention to the food at dinner time. They eat what they eat and don’t eat what they don’t. But we talk about our days and include them in convos. More times than not (for example) I will be eating a vegetable and I’ll catch my kids eating that same vegetable and they don’t realise because we’re so engrossed in the convo. I’ll do the smothering in gravy trick as well and they will copy. Next thing they know dinner is fully eaten. As time goes on it gets easier. I find that the more attention and effort I put in to ‘making’ them eat new or unliked foods the more they will kick up a stink. So I just don’t. I always make sure they have something they like on their plate but also things they don’t.

Honestly? Feed her what she will eat and pick your battles because she will eventually be less picky lol my son used to eat everything no issues but then when he turned 5 things changed lol now I just feed him like a bird with everything like normal and whatever he doesn’t eat that’s okay. And have more if he wants it.

I know it’s hard because you want them to eat something, but my son will eat better hands down if I just put it in front of him and don’t make a big deal about putting something on his plate he doesn’t like. He’ll generally give it a go.

Girl, every time she even puts something new in her mouth I’d be clapping and hollering and making a huge fuss over her. Good luck x

My toddler never ate broccoli, I just kept giving it to her on the plate. Eventually she started eating it. Just repetition

Maybe try dipping the sausage in gravy then dipping it in a couple of Rice Bubbles? I’m fully aware how absolutely chaotic this sounds but given she’s so young it may help the transition. And it’s just puffed rice after all 😂

I work in daycare and have for 18 years. I don’t put much pressure on them or force, but I try to find a way that might make it fun. “Im eating my carrot like a bunny” among a funny chewing noise. Usually someone relates and wants to join in.

id stop bringing so much attention to the food itself it's added pressure even if it doesn't seem like your pressuring her to eat it, if she does try something on her own praise her for trying it,
