It’s very simple: We go no contact because you don’t treat us with respect as an individual. I’m 48. I’ve been no contact for 8 years. Best decision I’ve ever made.

My parents had said that me and my children are on our way to hell because we do not believe the way that their church believes they believe in one this Jesus name and we are Trinitarian

No not long ago. My 85 yr old parents watched me go through a hurtful and emotional divorce that my 3 grown children did not want to happen. “ Why would you divorce Dad”, they got so mad they are Estranged. Ten years after divorce was final my parents decided they will not tell my children to stop treating me like garbage. They said, “ if we say anything they will then not talk to us either and we don’t want to chance that”. Nice uh? So at 59 1/2 I went silent with my 85 yr old parents. Now if they call I will talk but I am very much done!

Nope, never went NC. Just because you preceive them as rejecting you, doesn't make it true. When I was young I THOUGHT my mom rejected me because she wasn't very good at being nurturing or validating. As I started to mature more I realized she didn't get much nurturing or validation. When I talked to her she said she tried to be more nurturing but she never got any and had no model for it, and that she has never rejected me at all. So, a real and KIND conversation solved that. Cutting your parent off isn't going to resolve anything. Now my mom and I are very close.

Yes. When I was being traded for Dr@gs growing up and my mother did nothing… she made the bed. Then to go on and make my life harder I couldn’t do more

Rejection yes since I was little I was always told I was the root of the problem in my dad and his fiancé relationship and was “the reason the family is ruined” (I struggled with the divorce bad as a kid) so when I was old enough to move out I distanced because if me being there caused so much stress in their life why would I stick around? It’s been 15 years since I was that kid and 5 years since I moved out. They never married. I’m now out of the equation so in my head it’s like.. what’s stopping you now?

Offspring also need to accept the parents for who they are. They shouldn’t be expected to be someone they are not either. Road goes both ways.

I wouldn’t say rejection. Just constant over stepping and still trying to parent me when I became an adult. Criticizing my choices instead of supporting me. For years it was ‘live under my roof follow my rules’ but even after moving out it was still ‘do as I say or there will be consequences’ - every small thing was a huge argument.

I cut off my father recently again after trying to rework my relationship with him. He will never respect me as an adult human. My memories or opinions are totally invalid to him. Hes spent my whole life basically rejecting me

in my experience yes. my mom lost custody of me when i was 16 and she would go months without checking in on me. i did perceive that as abandonment. and during that time she wasn't present i grew up. and she was then committed to misunderstanding who i was as a person. in the end, spiritual differences is what made her walk away. i am still who i am just with her not in my life. i respect her choice.

Haven’t gone no-contact, but do limit contact, however, only from one part of my still married parents. My limited contact isn’t really about being seen/unseen but rather is about truly hurtful/harmful words an actions that go beyond parenting and would be hurtful/limit relationships/friendships/communication with any individual. For my own emotional stability and protection I know that limitations to the relationship are necessary; without these limitations I would have already gone no contact with him. He did the best he could with his skills, but his own generational situations, traumas, and experiences prevent him from continued growth or a current ability to understand, recognize, and change his own patterns. He loves me in the only way he knows how, but I think it’s also important to acknowledge his ability to show that love is often inaccessible and shows up in moments of vengeance, spite, and malice. I will always love him, and I also acknowledge that this means he often needs to be kept at a distance relationally and emotionally.

Yes ma’am. Both of my parents put lots of space between us as kids so they don’t understand why I put space between us now. My situation is a bit different in that their behavior was toxic (drugs, alcohol, domestic abuse). They were so busy fighting that they forgot about us. Now, as an adult, they want a relationship with the same behavior without making amends. My father has only met my children twice (they are 15 and 17). I can’t have that behavior around my kids. And I’m labeled a bad mom, mean and a liar. I was clear and made efforts to include them according to my rules. They never saw me, never encouraged me and never put me first. Now that I’m 48, they are my past and my kids are my future. Three of the 5 siblings have gone no-contact for years. Thank you for giving us space to speak. Sometimes parents reap what they sow. Sometimes no-contact is deserved.

My parent passed away before I had the tools to protect myself from the abuse, which would require no contact. I really wish I had, though. I have an amazing relationship with my daughter and it makes me sad to see the bond that my mother missed out on, simply because she chose to be abusive. I'd be in better shape if I'd gone no contact. All I can do now is be grateful that she's gone. ❤️

yes. that is a big of it. I'm gay and don't believe in God and they hate that about me and treat me accordingly. I can't charge either thing. my dad came to me and said, "let's just move forward" without even acknowledging that he went no contact with me for a decade because i am gay, let alone apologize for it.

I’ve been on both sides. I went no contact with my parents while they were in their 80’s. My mom absolutely rejected me and it was absolutely conditional love that pushed me away.

I usually disagree with your videos. This is actually a really good video. For me, yes it is this at least in part. I have always felt unloved for as long as I could remember, we’re talking as a toddler. Then my mom met my stepdad we both mutually disliked each other. Which turned into him defining me as a problem child with an attitude but I was literally this quiet, shy kid that simply didn’t like him. As I got older, dislike turned into verbal and physical abuse. I could never understand why she would let him both label me and hurt me or why she chose him. It wasn’t until this estrangement and she was in therapy with my sister and she asked my mom why she tried to protect her but not me and she said “I never bonded with her” and went on to talk about how I was always “unhappy”. So basically my unhappiness was just who I am not that I’ve been chronically unseen and hurting in silence. It clicked that it was never going to be reparable, there was nothing to repair. She never saw me as someone worth protecting. Even if it were reparable, he’d never let her get close or see me differently because that is threatening to him. When we were kids we weren’t even allowed private conversations with her because it bothered him.

Im not estranged, my Mom is awesome. However my coleque explained that she went no contact because "not seeing her mom hurts less than seeing her" she explained that her mom would critique her son harsly everytime she sees him. Her son hated going to grandma so she started leaving her son home with dad when ever she attended family things or even visited her mom. Her mom hated this and felt like she was entitled to see her grandchild so she blamed my friend for not bringing him eventually they were barely able to spend time together without it ending in fights and arguements with accusation and insults. So she went no contact.
