As some who actually is certified to do repairs on shipping containers and have modified them many times, it’s perfectly OK to cut down the entire length of the container, you just reinforce it with square tubing like you would a beam on a load bearing wall. Secondly, the fork pockets areas are actually stronger than the areas not containing fork pockets as they are reinforced with steel on top and bottom of the fork pockets. Multi use boxes are often 1/2 the cost cheaper and just as effective as one times for building. For best results, buy refer boxes as they’re already pre-insulated and less likely to corrode.

u can do that reinforcing the top rail with half inch thick angle iron did it for a couple years

As a builder I would say ditch the container it's more work framing making it waterproof and insulation
