Do not forget that her younger sister Marjorie was also the first American to be principal star dancer at the Paris Opera Ballet, but I also highly reccomend looking up the Five Moons (five Native American women from tribes located in Oklahoma that forever changed ballet in the US and abroad including the founding of several major companies that are still around today)

I'm Choctaw and grew up in OK doing ballet, because of her and the other 5 Moons a lot of us little girls believed we could be ballerinas. One of my cousins is actually a professional dancer!

My Cecchetti ballet school in the 80s had pictures of her in the dressing room. She was one of three primas that our director spoke to us about, as the personification of hard work, drive, and confidence in who you are, as an ideal for ALL the dancers.
