This happens socially too. You'll find that most people tend to assume that asking questions at something your boss or authority figure asks you to do is rude or bad manners. This entire idea of submitting to authority unquestioningly is part of society at some of it's most basic levels.

I read that book, the study contains good information. I think it has a lot of short falls.

Horizontal vs. vertical morality.
Personally, I think Vertical morality is emotionally infantile.

“The righteous mind” helped me understand so much of this kind of stuff. Johnathan Heidt is the GOAT

Or the government is lying about how many people support the war to give the appearance that the war is more popular than it really is. Then people who are not politically inclined see some headline that says 86% support the war and they think "well if its that popular then theres no reason for me to care." Its about tring to get people to disengage from the equation so they have more control over the variables.

I kinda think haidt’s theory is bullshit, all the questions he uses to get the difference in foundations build in existing left/right moral assumptions. If you ask left leaning people about different notions of purity you get different results. It all deck stacking in the definition of the foundations

This is incorrect. That would assume that only the people on the right are Christmas.

iv noticed this for years on a smaller scale. I used to work in a call center and people would call up and ask "dumb" questions. not because they don't know the answer but because they want to be told the answer from a source they view as an authority on the topic. I always tried to help guide people to the answer instead of just telling them the answer so that they had the knowledge / confidence to find the answer themselves next time. obviously didn't always work but it did sometimes.

But they did not feel this way when Biden was president. So it is hypocritical.
