I have thoroughly enjoyed designing this from the ground up as a custom for a friend and yes - went through so many iterations! It’s very modular and drains well, hands and feet are removable - also features a grill in the back to help air out the sponge.

If you want to make it "breath" it makes sense to not put the grid directly over a shallow water collecting area, and instead make a larger distance between the tray and the basin, to give the underside more airflow. Also: You can wash the sponges just in your washing machine at 60°C. The expensive ones will survive that dozens of times no issue. Just make sure to do this *before* it's starts to get stinky. :) So maybe add a small slider which allows you to set the day off the week where you replaced them last, so you can regularly put them into the washing machine? 🤔 Mine go a wash after half a week or if I cleaned something particular dirty. They dry near the washing machine and I just got 10 of them to grab a new one until I wash them all :)
