Jami :
When you have chronic social anxiety you lose your identity bc you are constantly worried about how OTHERS view you. The virtue of healing is that you get to know yourself as you step away from your ASSUMPTIONS of what others think (usually wrong). You improve your relationship with yourself and people.

For me, it’s also consistently putting myself out there, like if I put myself out there one time and then not for a while I’m gonna be freaking out the next time I do it, but if I consistently put myself out there, I find it to be maybe not easier per se but more manageable and less freaking out. I never really finding an end to the worry, but finding it a little bit more manageable to deal with because I’ve had previous experiences before. That’s just me.

i feel like i’ve been chipping away at figuring out basically everything he said in this video for years with myself and it’s crazy to hear this phrased in such a clear way, contextual confidence rings especially relatable

I think from my own experience always being excused as a shy child by parents and family and then what they thought they were doing answering for me cause I was "shy" never helped me socialise, I always feel having a partner or friend or sibling who is more confident is like having that pack of cards ❤️

Had chronic social anxiety for 3 years after a traumatic event. First six months was basically mute. Did relentless exposure therapy after that. Brick by brick.

Social anxiety can make every interaction feel bigger than it really is. I like the idea of treating communication as something you practice step by step, instead of waiting to feel fully confident first.
