Anyone else’s mother super concerned about not swallowing the bay leaf? As a gen xer, swallowing a bay leaf was up with quicksand as a main concern.

I had this conversation in my head last week when I realized I was out of bay leafs and that it’s literally a landscaping bush and why am I buying a bush leaf for my soups and does it actually even enhance or change the flavors?!

A bay leaf is something I use once, maybe twice a year. I've had the same jar of bay leaves for the past 20 years - I don't think they go bad 🤷♀️

bay leaves help bring out the rest of the flavours and boost umami - similarly to a pinch of salt on top of tomato or other vegetables helps reveal their flavour profile :)

I love Bay leaf and I go through a ton. if it boils or simmers there is a pretty good chance it needs a bay leaf.
