Mmm it helps with perspective but the fluidity of the pose is lost when starting with a box. I suggest start with a loose gesture of the figure your referencing and then applying those geometric principles on top to make sure everything is proportional. Remember it doesn’t always have to be accurate, it it looks right then it is right!

Can the artist community stop with these hot takes? Imagine how beginners feel when they finally found a new technique and start trying to learn it just for an experienced artist that they look up to to say "this doesn’t work". It might not work for you, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. How about instead of saying "this doesn’t work" you instead say "this didn’t work for me, here is what I did differently".
