no i fear this is a good take. i hated when bad students got praise for doing the bare minimum and being the "favourite" or being allowed more grace when something went wrong with essays or homework was essentially my equivalent

Furthermore, extra patience with "good" students can positively reinforce their good behavior. Not giving them that can cause them to question why work harder if they're treated the same as their less hardworking peers. Not all of them would have strong life goals to motivate them at that age

You're giving off young Sabrina Carpenter vibes!! Everyone has a favorite student(s) and a least favorite student(s). Parents have favorite kids, it just changes sometimes.

Favoritism, if based in meritocracy sounds completely fine. If a kid listens to me and does what I ask, yea, I’m gonna give them preferential treatment. They deserve that

It’s okay to have favourites, it’s exactly what you said, it’s just human nature. BUT it isn’t okay to actually show your favouritism inside your workplace, especially when your working with kids. Our brains aren’t even fully developed yet bro.

This is OK however I have an English teacher who favorites the certain student because she likes books. All of the other student students are very respectful that she gets favoritism. We have something at our school called student of the court and this teacher nominated her just because she’s his favorite like it’s so weird.

I agree. I think that’s just human nature. Same thing happens in business in general… clients who treat you respectfully you return the favor… mutual respect

I always tell the students that of course it's true that teachers like some students more than others, but that is liking or disliking you has nothing to do with your grade (or at least, as professionals, it shouldn't)

Coaches have favorites too - the ones that get to practice on time, work hard and overcome adversity.

That is how it is in the work place. Generally, when you show up on time, work, follow instructions, and try, you tend to get more slack.

As a “good student”, I always think that it is better on this side, because when you make mistakes, which are bound to happen, teachers are way more understanding and will trust you with more.

as a former problematic kid, the teachers who actually had the patience to try to understand my motives, guide me and treat me with fairness had a huge impact in my life. Now that I lead 300 people, it is very obvious to me but I am only here thanks to those extraordinary teachers

Honestly, it’s not even favoritism. It’s just I am going to show more respect to the student who shows me respect. I’m going to show less respect to the other student. They have access to the same teacher 🤷🏼‍♀️still fair treatment
