@gaarisonholran: Christianity didn’t decline in the U.S. randomly. When a society stops believing that truth is objective and begins treating it as something we create for ourselves, everything changes, including how we view God, morality, and the Church. Postmodernism didn’t directly reject Christianity at first, it redefined truth itself. And once truth becomes subjective, belief becomes optional #Christianity #Catholic #unitedstates #religion #sociology
as a non religious person this is very interesting

Ignores the prior seismic cultural shifts of theological Christianity in America (social gospel -> Neo-orthodoxy-> realism -> “postmodern fragmentation”) and even more egregiously it misses the elephant in the room: world war 2. also interesting is postmodernism is blamed much more than increased technological mediation

I think it’s more than that. Where people are trying to find their own niche subjective truth not because they think there is no objective truth but instead attempting to discover a new one, a “better” one or the “right” one. You’re right that as a society we stray from the control of an objective truth because we have more time to think intrinsically and for ourselves, but that’s also because the objective truths we know feels outdated in a world that progressed far beyond the time those truths were established. A time where thinking for yourself outside of religion was looked down upon. And so now when we individualize our own truths and share it with others, we can web together a truth that feels authentic and connected and not controlling and contradictory. Instead of a truth feeling like an umbrella that only works when you stand underneath of it, the truth is being built from the ground up so that no matter where you walk the truth always will be holding you up.

You are one of the most sensible and rational people i’ve seen on this app. Another creator might have just condemned one side or the other but you explain how it happens in a very rational and neutral respectful way. Kudos to you

that's a great analysis but there are some complications to dig into in a different video. Some of Christianity did and has adopted postmodernism. We also aren't in a postmodern but Metamodern society now.

I grew up in a moderately Christian household and now fall into the agnostic school of thought. Just wanted to say this is a fascinating way of viewing today’s ontological shift. Really well-said bro

I don’t know if this is the case for me Christianity or should I say Jesus is a very big part of my every day life almost everything I go through in life I still always think of Jesus 24 seven in my mind Yeah, sometimes I mess up. We’re all sinners, but Christ is a very big part of my life even if I’m trying to work on my faith Not to mention church is one of the big times I go out during the weekend, so yeah I guess it just depends on what People are doing personally Jesus is a big part of every aspect of my life
