Ask about military families without power. Get blocked by the base. Sergio Rodriguez, a retired Army veteran and Navy spouse, challenged Kings Bay’s Facebook ban. The settlement announced September 1 acknowledges his First Amendment rights were violated. Reporting: [OAF Nation](https://oafnation.com/blogs/news/navy-base-admits-facebook-violation) Let’s talk about the part that should matter to anyone who’s ever lived on an installation: what happens when the people asking for help become an inconvenience? I can understand a repair taking time. I can understand a command not having an exact restoration estimate. I can even understand somebody getting frustrated after answering the same question repeatedly. But you still have to do the job. The person asking about emergency housing might have a child who needs somewhere comfortable to sleep. The person asking about food might be calculating whether replacing a refrigerator full of groceries means cutting something else from the budget. Those are reasonable things to want answered. An official page should help people understand their options. If a question has already been answered, link the answer. If the information changed, update it. If a claim is wrong, explain what’s wrong. There are plenty of ways to handle a difficult comment without making the person disappear. And yes, I’m going to defend the people doing repairs, answering phones, and trying to help. A public complaint doesn’t automatically mean everyone involved is lazy or incompetent. That’s why leadership matters. The command needs to support its workers AND keep residents informed. Taking criticism professionally is part of that responsibility. Here’s what pisses me off about the bigger issue: we tell military families they’re part of the team. Then, when a family raises an uncomfortable problem, some people act like asking the question is disloyal. My standard is simple. Being proud of the military should make you care more about how its families are treated. It should make you want the complaint checked, the facts explained, and the problem resolved. A clean comment section is a pretty worthless achievement if residents still don’t know where to get help. Think about the signal a command sends with every response. An honest update tells people they’re being heard. A correction supported by evidence builds credibility. An acknowledgment of a mistake gives people a reason to believe the next answer. Silencing a critic can teach everybody watching to keep the next problem to themselves. And then leadership wonders why it learns about an issue from somebody else’s Facebook page. Here’s the debate: is a policy change enough after a wrongful ban, or should the person who approved it face a documented accountability review? What would you consider fair—training, a formal reprimand, something else? I also want to hear what GOOD looks like. If your installation handled a difficult complaint well, tell us what they did. The goal should be families getting answers and leaders earning trust. The block button can’t do either of those jobs for you. #miltok #Military #Navy #Army #Veterans #MilitaryFamilies
