I am a military veteran and get my care through VA so it got me wondering how it works for us. They have a national virtual tumor board. I’m guessing that’s what happened for me when I was diagnosed.

My case went to the tumor board! It made me feel kinda special 😁 Low oncotype #, genetic mutation and 7 positive lymph nodes found after double mastectomy. Chemo or no chemo? 🤔 75% on tumor board felt chemo. So chemo it was. And radiation, verzenio, letrozol and zometa. We drive 5 hours to my cancer center on the east coast. They are awesome.

Thank you for explaining this. When I met with my Doctor for the first time he said “well I presented your case to the tumor board…” I literally had no idea what that was or what he was talking about. There was so much information flying at me, I kinda mentally checked out. So thank you, this explains it!

We went with our hometown cancer center because they said they would be doing the same thing, a “tumor board.” Nope. We got 3 doctors who don’t read their own notes in my chart and definitely don’t talk to each other. We are headed to Duke for a second opinion next week.

Girl! My “case” went to the “tumor board at TX Oncology I felt so special. 😂 I had triple neg., then after the chemo and double mast. they found an incidental ER+ tiny tumor. They thought it was strange and they’ve never seen it before. I thought that was odd. In my Facebook support groups I’ve met people that have had this happen.

I enjoy following you. I am so grateful I live in the Boston area because my team (not really a “tumor board”) seems to be on point. But—I see great value in small town care because I trust breast oncologists are following the data and it seems, overall, that country-wide my Triple Positive Cancer follows the same or similar treatment protocols. I have decent insurance but costs are still piling up. I can’t imagine adding travel costs to this mounting stack of bills. Could you do a video that discusses common gold-standard treatment protocols for each type of breast cancer? Your experience is so valuable to this platform.

I am a tumor board pt as well. they moved mountains to get my imaging done on time for their meeting as my radiologist wanted it brought up. ER positive PR negative HER2 positive and they were trying to determine lymphnode involvement or not. lymphnodes ended up being another diagnosis that is not cancer.

I went to MUSC for a second opinion and the Surgeon/Professor recommended me to the Tumor Board there. My home Cancer Center had their own team. What’s the difference in a Tumor Board and a team?

I went through this locally first. I’ll give them credit where it is due, from my suspicion mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy, dx, genetic testing, MRI & meeting with the breast surgeon & plastics all happen within 3 weeks before the tumor board met. Genetics coordinator was the ring leader of the group & she knew I wasn’t interested in lumpectomy & radiation but because I have EDS the surgeons wanted me to meet with the radiation oncologist. I said Nope! I’d already found a clinical trial for a robotic mastectomy in Dallas (100 miles away for me) & the genetics coordinator had my referral sent immediately! She was my freaking rockstar at that point!

tumor board patient 🙋🏼‍♀️age 36 triple positive stage 3 breast cancer, 7 positive lymph nodes, and an incidental finding of a 6cm pancreatic mass (no hx of any alcohol abuse). per the tumor board the mass on my pancreas has no aggressive markers so the plan is to treat the cancer first.
