Inadequate Strength/Weak Materials: Lintels bought from unreliable suppliers or made with weak concrete (e.g., poor mixing ratio) can fail under load. 2. Lack of Support During Setting: If supporting pillars (props) are removed too early, the lintel cannot withstand the weight of the fresh masonry above it. 3. Improper Installation Orientation: Precast lintels should be installed properly. Installing them "flat" instead of upright or "twisting" them can result in them bending easily. 4. Insufficient Bearing Length: A lintel must rest on the masonry on either side of the opening by a sufficient amount (typically 150 mm, but not less than 100 mm) to distribute the load, otherwise, it will fail. 5.
