@jordonsteelejohn: New data from the Australian HR Institute shows disability discrimination in hiring is still widespread. I want to see workplace actions match their public commitments. If they won’t change on their own, our laws must make them. Video description: Jordon wears a beige suit, blue shirt, black glasses and holds a piece of white paper. Behind him is a glass door. Light blue graphics appear from ABC article.

Forget even when hiring, the discrimination AFTER getting the job is what's messed up. I've had workplaces just force me to leave because of ONE bad day at work. A SINGLE BAD EPISODE DAY. Like bruh that was my only normalcy

So i should probably not discuss my lived experience of neurodivergence and chronic illness when im applying for art therapy counselling or social work jobs in my cover letters....... I haven't been getting any interviews when I do bother to apply for jobs

This is why I never tick or disclose I am neurodivergent. I learned a long time ago it was why I didn't get hired.

ive been searching for a job on and off for 4 years now. im exhausted. no one wants to hire me, and the ones that claim to want me, end up ghosting me right before on boarding. the only answers ive gotten regarding this is "the position requirements do not meet your abilities" or something along those lines. I just want a job. im tired of being home. I miss having a routine and learning new skills. I want to practice my current skills i worked so hard to earn. its not fair

I was almost hired at a job last year, I was told that it would be office job adjacent. they had me do a fitness test which I didn't pass BC disability. when the employer told me I couldn't do the job they listed a bunch of duties I'd need to do that weren't listed in the ad, or the two prior interviews 🙃🙃 it's beyond frustrating

Not just hiring but in the workplace management as well my last job refused to give me a list of wheelchair accessible services despite asking 3 separate times so I only ever worked at one service in that company because I knew it was accessible and it was so far from where I lived at the time

I kept my chronic illness a secret for as long as I could, 1.5 year in, flare up. I tell my boss, I went from 5, 5 hr shifts weekly to, maybe 1, 3hr shift. I was later fired with zero contact, after they asked me to come in for a shift, I couldn't as I had just driven my mother to hospital. multi-billion dollar company btw

There is an increase in cognitive assessments in recruitment and will probably see this increase as a screening tool for candidates. Although there is room for adjustments for those who need it, including those who are neurodivergent, you're required to disclose this within the interview process to get those adjustments added onto the cognitive assessment.

I applied for a job with Inclusion Australia and decided to disclose my disability because I thought it actually would assist me in the role I was applying for. Immediately denied.

So this is why I can’t get a job. I had surgery done on my ankle back in November 2024 and still get pain but rarely. I want to get a job and I’ve put my name to different industries even sales person. Plus I got dsylaxia, and maybe undiagnosed autism. I just want to work. I got my forklift license and my whitecard but I’m getting nowhere.

Will you please please please discuss the issues around University? (Specifically prac placement) - there was only 2 of us in my last round, I’m now waiting for a hip replacement (bc my accommodation were a “logistical nightmare”) and the other girl has permanently deferred (we were studying teaching)

I lost my hearing 10 years ago due to Ménière’s disease. Beforehand I had worked as a gaming manager and on a cruise ship.. It broke me when nobody would hire me afterwards 😭 Instead of giving up (like I was being conditioned to do by each rejection) I volunteered at wildlife shelters and zoos ❤️That saved my life 🙏 Keep fighting for quality of life 💪 It shouldn’t be so hard 😅
