@vbtcnews: Communities on Pentecost Island are celebrating a major step in rural electrification, following the launch and handover of three pico hydro systems. Delivered by the Government of Vanuatu in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, the project supports the country’s goal of 100 percent renewable energy by 2030. Celebrations, traditional dancing and community voices marked the occasion, as many villagers experience reliable electricity for the first time. The initiative, under the Vanuatu Green Transformation Project, provides 24/7 power to over 700 connections, including homes, schools and health facilities. Community members say the new electricity will improve daily life, support education, and create new opportunities. Funded by the Government of Japan, the project is a major step toward sustainable development in rural Vanuatu, with systems now handed over for full operation. Communities on Pentecost Island welcome new development, with three hydro power systems launched this week. The project will benefit communities on Pentecost Island facing challenges from limited electricity. 📷 More in our full report on the 7PM News tonight.
