Stove on island, sink on countertop facing wall because of backsplash. This is the way.

Kitchen on the island is big mostake, attracts mess

The island is usually visible from the living area, therefore a dirty sink or splashes around it wouldn’t be nice, another downside would be the complexity of plumbing and the lack of storage space. Also, a dishwasher works better next to the sink.
