When I got married divorce was never even on my radar. I didn’t grow up around it. Our parents are still married. That wasn’t supposed to be my story. So yeah… deciding to walk away? That shit broke me. People look at my life now and think I’m just “happy” like it came easy. It didn’t. It took years of feeling exhausted before my day even started. Years of pouring everything I had into something that still made me feel like I wasn’t enough. No matter how hard I tried it just never felt like it was going to be right. And the hardest part? Admitting that what I wanted out of life didn’t line up with what he wanted anymore. That’s not something you just accept overnight. I outgrew a version of my life I thought I’d have forever. The girl I was at 15 had no idea what was coming. And honestly if I could go back and talk to her I wouldn’t sugarcoat it. I’d tell her, “This is going to hurt like hell. You’re going to question everything. But you’re also going to fight your way through it and you’re going to be stronger because of it.” Because I am. It took me a long time to get here. But I’m finally at a place where I don’t wake up feeling defeated anymore. And that kind of peace? I earned every bit of it. #itsokay #mentalhealthmatters
