I hate the term practice pushing as a labor nurse!! if you push for 30 minutes, an hour, 3 hours, all of that is pushing!! the doctor comes in for the last few pushes but everything up until then is real pushing too 🥰

I started doing practice pushes and they were like stop. We need to get the doctor in here and all I wanted to do was push screaming that I needed to push. She eventually got in there. It took like 10 minutes and my baby was out.

Practice pushes are to see how you do. I only do this with an epiduralized patient to see if she is able to bear down on the correct space. Someone who has had a baby I’m calling the doc to be at the desk.

practice pushes are only a couple pushes to see if baby moves well with the effort. anything beyond that is just pushing with the nurse. so many people don't realize we as ob nurses do the majority of the pushing part and doc comes in to deliver.
