I’ve been racking my brain on ways to correct this. I’m an indie dev developing my own game that I would aspire to at least have a competitive scene. Toxicity and sexism are so prevalent in competitive games and I would love ideas how it can be mitigated from the game design side of things. I’d rather be proactive and not reactive about it.

Hello Eefje! Your video that spoke on the female esport player experience really meant a lot to me. It feels like there's almost no options for us at times when it comes to pursuing this game professionally. I am trying hard every day to grind out the games to get better but knowing that scouts don't generally go for women, and that even if noticed they can't facilitate me into a team feels heartbreaking... I just had one question for you, I was wondering if you knew anything besides the surface level stuff you can find online for how to get into the scene? I want to try my best and be a beacon for women's gaming, but it's difficult to find contacts or make connections when I'm not exactly known in the ladder yet or as a streamer, etc. Thank you so much for reading this if it ever gets to you!

i played circles around my friends at launch and yet a few of them got scouted and went nowhere but both conversations i had was how they didn't think it would be a safe setting for me as a young girl. this unfortunately isn't just league. this is across competitive games in general.
