If you're not job hopping every 3 or so years youre being underpaid. Its the only way to keep your pay going up. The job hopping has never once come up in an interview either. You should be loyal to your bank balance not your employer.

There is no incentive to be loyal anymore. Companies make it very clear how replaceable their employees are…and rather than rewarding those who are passionate enough to work above and beyond their role / pay grade to meet the needs and solve problems for their company… that level of effort became an expectation to even be considered for a merit increase / promotion at all, let alone an increase that is respectfully above the measly 1-3% “cost of living” bump. Lol and now with companies salivating over the concept of AI replacing as much of the workforce as possible to maximize profits… fuck loyalty lol.

I realized workplace loyalty didn’t exist when the CEO of a company I used to work for flat out said “The company’s loyalty is to the shareholders, not the employees.” That was in 2010. In the years since I’ve seen plenty of things that support that statement.

It's been dead because they stopped rewarding loyalty. If you could job hop for a 10-20% pay bump instead of settling for a 3% pay bump in the role, why would you ever consider staying?

Been dead for the past 11 years. Pay rises within the company are far less frequent, not in line with wages or the roles being performed. Employers will increase responsibility as much as they can until the employee brings up the role and asks for a payrise or new role. Meanwhile you can bring that experience to a new company and get a far bigger pay rise. Rinse and repeat.

as a pastry chef, I'm loyal to the quality of work I'm doing, even when it's a struggle. the company reaps the benefits of that, but loyal to the company... not so sure about that, even when it looks that way from the outside looking in.

I believe loyalty in the workplace is dead because both employers and employees have changed what they expect, and loyalty is no longer prioritised on either side. With rising workplace bullying and a stronger focus on mental health, people are more focused on protecting themselves and finding environments that truly support them.

After 12 years and success to the tune of over $100mill in fundraising efforts under my leadership, my morning tea for leaving only had my team in attendance. The seniors were upset I was leaving. My fave part tho was my team said the thing they thanked me for most, was how much I showed my care for them as people. What a win for me personally.

it depends on leadership, upward movement, and compensation. theres very few companies that incentivise loyalty. no more pensions. heath insurance is 10-20k out of your paycheck. hiring new, inexperienced, employees at the same rate or higher, than current experienced employees.
