It could be that once it breaks it shell and the air hits them sometimes they pass due to that I’ve been dealing and hatching eggs for 16 years and for future reference I would add water on day 18 so they don’t get shrink wrapped in the shell

I do this every year. There’s always maybe one or two, the odd 3 we’ve had to help hatch out. Some still have sacks on their bottom but they end up soaking it up and living a wonderful life.

Some are also too big for the shell for the full development and they end up passing sadly.

this happened with two of mine yesterday. one passed before it had even pipped but i got 6 chicks from 9 viable at lockdown out of 12 eggs. I didn’t open the incubator at all but they exhausted themselves but I didn’t want to shrink wrap the ones actively hatching
