As an autistic person, I feel everything way MORE than most people. I'm never just sad or happy. I'm distraught or elated

I feel like the second form of ableism is mainly offline and the very first is mainly online.

This!!!!!!!!! Neurodivergents(mainly autism, OCD), physically disabled, POC, and LGBTQ+ aligned folks are treated like this so bad, It's disgusting. We aren't all children, and even those that are children are babied like they are much younger than they are. And all of that just to FURTHER stunt the growth of autistic people, making their life much harder for them, especially as they reach adulthood. It's this horrible cycle.

I feel like i get talked down to a lot despite being treated as older than i am sometimes and. Thats a really annoying mix of things to deal with. Being afab certainly doesnt help that ! Gotta love mansplaining AND ableism!!

I feel like being diagnosed with autism during adulthood was better for me than being diagnosed as a child because I probably would have experienced more ableism during childhood, and it’s not like I had the resources necessary for help anyway. Am I the only one who feels this way? ☹️

I work with high needs disabled adults and the amount of people that treat them like little kids is crazy. I try not to because I also have a disability and I wouldn't want somebody to talk to me that way.

As an autistic person myself when I was younger I used to baby talk at other autistic people because i thought that’s how you spoke because that’s how people would speak to me 😩

Heavy on the first. I remembered feeling horribly wrong when teachers & peers would infantilize the special ed kids when I was in high school. At the time, I wish I said something.

One of the worst types in my opinion is Silent Ablism. It’s difficult to identify and even more difficult to report it or call it out.

Yes ugh I was babied by teachers because I had a 504 plan for PTSD stemming from CSA. And it wasn’t even a learning issue. Not that would make it better. Since then I’ve gotten physical disabilities and I hate that people stare when I use my disabled parking placard. I don’t have to look disabled to be physically disabled. It’s so frustrating

Also even if someone doesn’t feel empathy that dosent mean that they are a bad person or that they can’t feel sympathy!

okay but what if I'm diagnosed with autism and I genuinely don't feel empathy at all, neither emotional or cognitive, like by their literal definitions😭 obviously I don't like being an asshole, actually people tell me that I'm "overly obsessed" with others' boundaries or that I'm "too nice". it's just that it seems I feel really intense pity for people and the need to help them when they tell me what they feel is distressing even though I have genuinely no idea how it feels at all. like I genuinely can't imagine or FULLY understand the EXACT feeling someone experiences at the moment unless I was in the EXACT same situation that made me feel the EXACT SAME thing, which is to say the least very unlikely with my brain working differently and all. and isn't that experience the literal opposite of what feeling empathy is by definition? unless I'm mistaken, of course. but it's like I can't measure their feelings by any measurement method known to me, so it's all just assumptions, and I hate assuming. like they tell me they're really sad because of something, and while I have no idea why would that make someone sad, I have a really strong urge to comfort them regardless and get to know the details so I can help them. like I don't feel empathy by definition, but I still hate other people being upset and I feel an overwhelming urge to make them feel better if that makes sense?
