Property manager here! I’m salaried and it is NOT easy if you are a detail oriented person who likes things done the right way! We do a lot of behind the scenes work that assistants and leasing agents do not see and often have to have all of the hard and uncomfortable conversations. Also, most companies do not give commission for renewals

I love my job as a residential property manager and have been in this position for 4 years now. This industry isn’t for everyone. It’s a lot of stress, a lot of fixing issues and dealing with a lot of negativity from tenants complaining. We also have to keep our mental health in check. Make sure to take care of yourself. Don’t let the negativity take over. I had to learn this along the way but also make sure you have thick skin! It’s customer service, marketing, listening, and more in this field.

Property Manager for 15 years. Yes, some companies offer a rent discount but you have to live on property and are basically “on call” 24/7 because your residents always see you. Also, if you get let go some companies have it in your contract that once your let go you must vacate your discounted unit within 72 hours or 10 days…I have seen several former co-workers try to secure housing in that amount of time.

I agree on everything you said EXCEPT for it being EASY. I’m a ACM for a 500+ unit property and it is the opposite of easy haha😂

as somebody who has been in the industry for a while.. this information is not always the case. Also, depending on what management company you work for etc. Plus management companies go and come all the time on top of buildings selling and so receiving a discount in housing you know sometimes you always have to be on your toes.

property management def isn't for everyone though! i've been a leasing consultant for about a year and i genuinely feel like it's a very emotionally draining job with little work life balance available, and i can't wait to leave because i just was not built for this industry... but my sister loves it, became an ACM and thrived in it

I think it’s important to say that a half priced apartment is definitely not common unless you are in lease up. My company standard is 20%, PM’s are the only ones who normally get higher.

I will say not all companies do 50% discount discounts. My company does a 20% discount. I do receive a large larger discount because I was being scouted by another company in my company didn’t want me to leave.

The bonuses can be great but not every company pays commissions. Do not join “just to get a discount.”Do not join bc you think it’s “easy” there is no such word in property management.
