Huh? It has grooves. Bacteria can certainly get in there and that makes it hard to clean

they stain terribly. But, if you get a white one just wipe it with a rag with bleach and stains coke right off.

Diatomaceous earth is what its made of. which is brilliant. Its antimicrobial, absorbs moister like crazy, and is entirely non-toxic for pets. I have two of these they are great.
