I wish people would just trust the professionals. 😭 The odds of you being autistic and seeing a psychiatrist and not getting an autism diagnosis the first time, but ALSO not being diagnosed with anything else that is commonly mistaken for autism is extremely low.

Crazy that they’re willing to spend their time like that, my brother has been on the waiting list for Audhd for 5yrs!! (Bcs he’s quite high on the spectrum he does receive help tho). My uni is soon getting me diagnosed for ADHD but I dread in the future getting it done clinically if I ever want meds, id also have to put up with such crazy waiting times!!

i used to agree with self dx, but not anymore because of my own experience with my child. im diagnosed, and i was 100% sure my oldest child was autistic. he did all the quizzes and scored very high. he had social issues... all the textbook quirks. so, i took him to get properly assessed, and his diagnosis was adhd and social anxiety. not autism. I was wrong. at first I didnt believe it (because I didnt want to admit i was wrong) but as he has gotten older, its more and more apparent that the experts were right, and i was wrong.

my mom send me to a therapist because she tought i was depressed but i ended up with an autism diagnosis a few weeks later 😭

I went to my therapist and my psychiatrist, both said I don’t so I just reevaluated myself. I realized they’re right and my symptoms are better explained by ADHD PTSD and OCD (all diagnosed now!)

I thought I might have autism or ADHD, however, after researching I think I just have neurodivergent tendencies but don't quite fit the criteria for a diagnosis. So on one hand I would love to check to rule it out but on the other I don't think there is any point as for the most part I manage just fine.

as a child i couldn’t get diagnosed because they told my mom i was “too developed” as a young child. i did end up getting diagnosed at 16. but that took one psychiatrist, and the only “test” i do for autism was an IQ test.

what i did was make a list with every symptom i had (took about a year of keeping it. anytime another possible symptom popped up i added it) writing how often and long it happens. just adding as much detail as i could. then i went to the doctor and just told them i thought something was wrong with me mentally like adhd, autism, bpd or something, being a bit vague on purpose. then i got send to a psychologist, met her over the span of about half a year, weekly and i finally got the diagnosis of autism (i at first thought it would be adhd because my brother had that) so all i can say is make a list🤷♀️

I got diagnosed in a month, mostly due to phone calls with my mom explaining my symptoms. I’m lucky but it only took me one appointment, most of the time that’s all that’s necessary baring you need a second opinion for it 🤷

I got diagnosed several times cause I doubt sometimes my diagnosis and they alle say that I’m clearly autistic but I’m still unsure sometimes.

I had to get told by my Uni to look into getting my ADHD diagnosis, it cost me a whole repeat uni year (then leaving the course). I had to wait for 2 years during this and medication caused me to lose so much weight that I had to stop it and now weighing my options. It still hard to accept it (turns out my childhood teachers also advised for me to get diagnosed too lol) so I can’t imagine wanting to be neurodivergent this bad 💔
