Once upon a time, in a city where the skyscrapers were made of shifting glass and the streets were paved with bioluminescent moss, lived a clockmaker named Silas. But Silas didn’t repair watches; he repaired memories. People would come to his workshop with rusted lockets or broken music boxes, complaining that they had forgotten the smell of their grandmother’s kitchen or the exact blue of a summer sky in childhood. Silas would open the back of the trinket, tinker with the gears of "then" and "now," and hand it back. One click, and the memory would rush back, clear as a bell. One evening, a woman arrived with nothing in her hands. "I’ve lost tomorrow," she whispered. "I can remember everything that has happened, but I can no longer imagine what might happen." Silas had never seen a broken future before. He realized that to fix it, he couldn't use his usual brass tools. Instead, he took a blank scroll and a pen made from a fallen star. "The future isn't a machine to be fixed," he told her. "It’s a story that hasn't been narrated yet." Together, they began to describe a world that didn't exist—a place where the trees grew silver leaves and the wind sang in three-part harmony. As they spoke the words aloud, the woman’s eyes began to glow. The "ticking" in her mind started again. She didn't need a clockmaker; she just needed a script.
