I also think about the controller. What he must be going through. Made a mistake. But he should not have been put into that situation. Decades of understaffed, overworked controllers is leading to a very tired controller workforce. Most controllers are only getting four days off per month. He should not have been working all that alone. The FAA set him up to fail and its terrible for that guy.

This is so true. Sacrificing their lives, controlling the plane up until the last second. They prevented a high speed runway excursion, which as one may suspect would likely not end well, or risk striking fuel tanks on the wings. Truly sad but a brave crew.

they stayed the course. whether they knew or not, whether they had time to process or not (& I hope they felt no fear or pain), they flew the plane to the end. that doesn’t always happen. but they did it & it saved everyone but themselves.
