Dont know why people gotta be assholes but, Your car is designed to run on as little RPM’s as possible to preserve fuel. Its just trying to lower the RPM’s to save fuel

the transmission went down a gear. meaning the engine has to move faster to maintain the same speed. the faster the engine moves the more power is available. it also can't go too low or it will run weird, which is why it seems to not want to go below 1000.

everyone here is slow bro. first off a DOWN shift would raise rpm because your moving down gears which needs higher rpm to move at the same speed. i don’t think this is anything to do with the trans at all. more than likely some kinda variable valve timing retarding your ignition to save fuel.
