Footage captured by Berna Raza shows a sea conservationalist fixing planks to guide the hatchlings as excited locals gather around in La Union, the Philippines. Moments later, two volunteer men from the Coastal Underwater Resource Management Actions carefully tilted the wooden box containing the sea creatures on March 21. The turtles then crawled across the shore, scrambling towards the water as beachgoers cheered in awe. Sea turtles hatch year-round, but most commonly during the summer. Hatchlings are typically released within 24 hours of emerging from their eggs to improve their chances of survival from predators and exhaustion. The Philippines is home to several sea turtle species as well, including the green turtle and the hawksbill turtle—both of which are classified as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
