My driving instructor who was a retired Memphis cop taught my class you should be able to see the line just over your hood because in case you get rear ended it’s less likely you’ll be pushed into the intersection and get t-boned by cross traffic.

Nope! I stop when the white line is lined up with the hood of my truck. And it’s saved my life more than once.

I had always learned you stop when you see the top of your hood and line meet. The reason being, if someone slams into you from behind, you have enough space between you and crosswalk. So you don’t hit anyone that may be in the crosswalk.
