Takes two to tango point being. Effort goes both ways but a lot of it in the Beginning does absolutely fall on you. Gotta put yourself out there. Tons of people who are more than willing to engage here in Japan.

I'm half lonely in Japan. until the end of March I was working 50 hours a week with a 2 hour commute 6 days a week and still was struggling with money. I focused on hobbies bcuz without hobbies making friends is tough. BUT... I'm okay with being half lonely as it's expected when someone says works so much. I am used to it and it's hard to think about being lonely when you're busy haha.

I 100% agree. During my 2 weeks in Japan I realized that the whole idea of people in Japan wanting to be isolated from others is wrong because yes they might be shy to start a conversation but as soon as you break the wall and start a conversation they’re more than happy to communicate. I don’t even speak Japanese but I made so many friends there and I even learned some Japanese words and slangs 😂

I think in my situation I made plenty of friends at my study abroad uni and traveling but it’s the level of friendship it’s harder to truly be close to people in Tokyo while the are so busy and lifestyle is just different. Even tho we were friends ideally it never felt like it deep down. I never felt traditional lonely but in a sense of closeness plus language barrier I’m only N4 so they treated me and said i basically couldn’t speak Japanese it made me feel a certain type of way but I did have friends I genuinely felt close with but they were in Nagoya.

When I was in Japan, the only thing that I was missing about America was my family and friends. I just wanted them there with me but from what I’ve heard the Work culture is bad there but you know what it’s bad in USA too sure I’m making American money but it’s not affording me a house
