@popculturescientist: What does intelligence need to evolve? Does all life have the potential for intelligence? This is episode 4: Evolution #popculturescientist #stem #evolution #scifi #intelligence
rare but not unique, and on a universal scale it may just be uncommon, hell it may be common.

Incerta Veritas :
Most likely moons that orbit Jupiter-like planets may have better odds for complex life. We can't be the only place where life spawned, mathematically improbable to say the least.

Nothing impossible, just highly improbable? Why do I suddenly want a lemon and a large gold brick...

Another question is how long does intelligent life last? Are us humans still going to be around in one form or another in a million years? And a million years is very small amount of time in the history of our planet.

The period of time is unimportant 🤔

Fundamental question: Is it intelligence or consciousness?

Loved the reality drop in the middle. We can improve and I hope we choose that path.

but intelligence is just a word us humans gave our behavior. to other species it could look as instinct 😁

For me, life is rare; maybe imposible.

you are right. our large brains is exceedingly expensive to keep and totally unecessary for survival. we do not make sense. i think intelligence is very rare but simple life will probably be common.

Hey so this episode makes me wonder about the possibility of life on the alien planet in The Three Body Problem. How did life not only survive but excel on a planet where it was impossible to predict planetary patterns like seasons and astronomical events?

it's not as rare as you're suggesting when we look at the intelligence of animals octopuses are roughly as intelligent as a 3 or 4-year-old child primates probably more so elephants. there's a great book called. are we intelligent enough to understand the intelligence of animals or something like that? and as a neuroscience geek who thought the same as you, it changed my mind cuz it gave enough evidence. tool use recognition of self in mirrors multiple vectors of evidence across species that are definitely not in the same evolutionary line as ourselves have reached at least young child intelligence equivalence so it's not as uncommon as you seem to think. by the way, we can't use the size of a brain to estimate intelligence because it's the size of the brain relative to the size of the body. so if you have a big body and a massive brain when we do the EQ or encephalization quotient, whatever it is, our brain is quite large compared to our total body size. that is true of other species but this is probably a rough estimate and let's go back again. high intelligence not just human intelligence, but high intelligence in a broader and more sophisticated understanding is not as uncommon as you are suggesting. I recommend a book. I think it's just called the intelligence of animals or are we smart enough to understand the intelligence of animals which changed my mind as a neuroscience guy that we are probably as normal just being species-centric and egocentric to think that we are the only intelligent life on this planet.

Well, intelligence life appeared not ones. There were Neanderthals, Denisovans and more. However, they all didn't survive.
