@milknhoneynutrition: Every packaged food includes a Nutrition Facts label, but not everyone knows how to use it. For those of us managing diabetes (of all types), that box of information is a roadmap to understanding how a food might affect your blood sugar. Carbohydrates, sugars, and fiber all influence how quickly glucose enters your bloodstream. And so does protein and fat! Two foods (like the ones I showed in this video) may have the exact same amount of total carbohydrates, but a food high in refined carbohydrates and added sugar is likely to spike blood sugars quickly, while one higher in fiber and protein may produce a slower rising, steadier blood sugar response… even when they have the same amount of total carbs. Instead of focusing on just one nutrient on the label, it’s important to view the entire label as a snapshot of how a food will act in your body. Once you understand what the numbers really mean, you’ll be able to compare foods easily and spot better options. #diabetes #bloodsugar #type1 #type2 #foodlabels

Can you talk about how sugar alcohols create the same insulin response as regular sugar without the spike in blood glucose?

Nutritionist should explain it this way when someone is diagnosed. When my baby was diagnosed at the hospital they told me to just look at the total carbs. Later I learned this here on tiktok and it does make a huge difference for my baby.

I always look at sugar in carbs aswell as just carbs. (how I was taught when 1st diagnosed). I found Solo has same amount of carbs as Coke (full strength sort) but Solo is lower in sugars. so if I want to choose the lesser of 2 evils I go for the Solo when I can

I’ve been seeing a lot of videos lately that tell diabetics to only count the net carbs. I was taught count all carbs . I now wonder if something changed.
