Billionaires rarely avoid taxes illegally they reduce them legally through loopholes. Instead of earning normal salaries, they keep wealth in stocks, property, and businesses. As long as they do not sell those assets, they often do not pay tax on the increase in value. They can also borrow money using their assets as collateral, since loans are not taxed. For example, if a billionaire owns shares worth $1 million and their value rises to $10 million, they still do not pay tax until they sell them. Instead of selling, they can borrow $2 million from a bank using those shares as collateral. Because it is a loan, not income, it is not taxed.

The Government here in Australia understands this. That’s why the government is trying to push a new bill called unrealised tax.

It’s a very simple concept and it makes sense the way it is. It’s about unrealised GAIN. Gain is the word. Elon has the shares and they are real. But Elon didn’t convert them into gains/cash, so it’s not taxable. You can’t tax people holding things.

Very disingenuous take. The collateral is to borrow money which is paid back from the investment of twitter which will pay for itself. He’s not buying it out right without paying anything for it. It’s the same as using equity in your house. It needs to be paid back but the collateral is there to protect the entity loaning the money. However if you tax someone on unrealised gains you are simply taking more money from someone for having a thing that may or may not be worth what it was taxed at.

the only reason billionaires are not taxed is because people vote in weak representatives who take a payoff. and the representative represents for corporate and billionaires interests
