This division allows each controller to focus on a specific task, which increases precision and safety. In contrast, at very busy airports such as those in New York, it can happen that a single controller is responsible for both airborne and ground communications. This situation is partly due to a shortage of air traffic controllers in the United States, which sometimes requires roles to be combined. As a result, controllers may have to manage multiple responsibilities at the same time, even in high-traffic environments.
