@from.thelodge: Saul Leiter 📸 I’ve been sitting with his photos this week and it’s already changing how I want to shoot. He shot through windows, rain, reflections - a master at using his environment to frame the scene and subject. His colour is never loud, just one small thing pulling your eye through the frame. And he started as a painter, which I think you can feel in every image. Most of his personal work was overlooked for decades until his book Early Color came out in 2006. What blows my mind is that almost all of it was shot within a few blocks of his apartment. You don’t need a special location. You just need to start looking differently. Are you familiar with Saul Leiter? And what’s one technique from his work you’d want to try? Music by @musicbed
I knew this was Saul Leiter before you said a word…he’s been top of my reading pile this week! Inspirational street photographer, and another superb intro video.

I’ve been begging for a new obsession; thank you for introducing me to Saul. Have you done a video yet on my personal favourite, Vivian Maier?

Saul, a great mentor and dear friend. He lost a lot of his spark after Soames but he had so much creative knowledge. I got to know him through Greenberg’s gallery in soho and got to see his first colored prints. He was a delightful in his own way.

Wow never heard of him but what a photographer! An absolutely incredible eye. He did strike lucky doing this during a time when people still dressed well. Now it’d be all leggings and tracksuits!

I don’t care about photography at all, but I was rapt for this entire video. Well done. I’m interested in following your journey.

An excellent photographer but I wonder how many watching this TikTok could use the Graflex that he is shown using. Contemplative, deliberate and skilled.

He is one of my favourites. Had really unique vision and his choice to shoot in colour is also a groundbreaking in a way. For me colour photography will always be better than BW, more emotional in a way.

Shooting on film, you don’t get a preview or do over of what you captured. Understanding lighting, shutter speed and aperture is a lost art when today’s cameras provide all of that for you.
