As someone who works in customer service/retail the correct response to "Are you a new employee?" is "Yes ma'am, I started *however long ago*" or just "Yes ma'am". Miss Lisa wasn't asking a dumb question, Miss Lisa saw a face she did not know and was curious on if she was new. And she has every right to be angry that she was met with a passive aggressive response.
