She said : One of our granddaughters. If you are giving money to one, you should also give the same amount to other grandchildren imho. Don’t award the poor decision one only

My husband had a wealthy uncle that would just randomly paypal him money just because. No strings attached. It eas never expected but has helped us so much over thr years.

Well, am I the only one who thinks they missed the first step of having a conversation with them? You assume their situation from a third persons perspective and maybe just have a talk about money before everything else????

I’m with the grandad on this one. Bailing them out wouldn’t teach anything. If they had a history of financial security but suddenly fell on hard times due to job loss or unexpected expenses then it would be different. Parents and grandparents do need to be mindful that sometimes their kids and grandkids do need some help from time to time. They’re not obligated to it by any means, but I can speak from experience that an unexpected gift means everything in the world at times.

Okay I really love FPU. However, I believe it should be given after their car is fixed. They didn’t ask for help. It would be a bit upsetting to be trying to figure out how to pay for something by yourself and suddenly out of nowhere have your grandparents give you a book on how to be debt free. Why not wait for a gifting season like their birthday or Christmas to give them a book on managing their money?Instead of giving them this when it might not go over as well and be received poorly.

I read a great quote recently: your kids and grandkids need the money NOW in their 20’s and 30’s. They need it a lot less at 55-60 when you die. Gift them something now, as it’s a LOT more important now.

I say, you take them to the mechanics shop, pay DIRECTLY to fix the vehicle, then help them figure out their own finances.

pay to have the car towed to the shop and pay the bill to fix it dont just give them the cash if your worried about what they will actually spend it on. thats what I would do if I was trying to help

Pay the shop directly to have the car fixed. Its less money than what they initially planned to "gift". Call it their birthday/christmas/anniversary gift for the next 2 years.

Education is every parents' responsability. Nobody should start their adult life in debt.

I would suggest gifting whatever this university thing is to ALL the grandchildren so that they don’t feel targeted and everyone gets the benefit of the knowledge.
