immigration is so hard sometimes, especially if you have a unique case. recently faced this as a Maldivian trying to get visa for an intern at an NGO. I called the immigration before I even started the process but they still kept saying different things, rejecting applications even after I did what they told me to. so frustrating. I hope they can take this feedback and improve cos that was the most stressful two weeks of my life.

The tourist visa on arrival is valid for 30 days. If you stay in the Maldives beyond this period, even by one day…….it is considered an overstay, and a fine of MVR 15,000 per person must be paid. The best approach is to plan ahead by applying for a visa extension in advance through the portal, with the assistance of your sponsor. You may still depart on the same day after paying the MVR 15,000 fine. This is clearly a case of negligence rather than a misunderstanding.
