I can’t agree with you on the last part sorry but the closest story that is so well written like the kingdom hearts story IMO would be the NieR story maybe also E33 but that’s it.

KH3 wasn’t as good bc it just didn’t have the sauce 2 had. I can make a whole list why I didn’t like it, but mainly 2 just did everything better, besides maybe graphics and level exploration.

I honestly think re:coded was fun. It made unique choices and fun game play. Sure some of it was rough. But I honestly feel like the story beats involving Castle Oblivion were great. I even think that Roxas fight has more emotional weight to it. Also best Darkside design.

My hot take is 3 is just meh because of internal design of story/gameplay and had nothing to do with hype. Its the end of the xehanort saga and return to home console so it was normal the game generated high expectations. But the execution was weak and that's purely on Square, Disney, Nomura and his team.

One thing that’s repeated in KH is “ Roxas was never supposed to exist” WHY? Sora turned himself into a heartless, Roxas exists because of that, much like every other nobody. Their original selves got turned into heartless. They all got nobodies. But not a single soul questioned their existence.

what's so funny to me is that when people try so hard to say that the Kingdom hearts story doesn't make any sense it does make sense if you stop overthinking and genuinely take everything a face value. and the other half of that is I'm pretty sure most people just do that thing where they're just like I'm so confused I don't even know what's going on when did this become a thing and I'm just kind of sitting there like it became a thing within like the second game there's like multiple cutscenes explaining it what do you mean you don't understand what's going on

I don’t hate KH3 but it was definitely a major disappointment. I’ve been of the belief that KH3 should been what KH2 is. KH2 (I guess more so KH2.5) was an all around great game. Gameplay’s amazing, music is top tier, and the story spectacular. There was plenty unserious moments in the story but overall it took itself serious and it felt like a good ending for the saga. KH3 just felt like it was hear for the goofs and gags. IMO, KH3 felt kinda empty but bloated a bit; like it’s here because we need an ending but most of the heavy lifting was already done with KH2 and Dream Drop

the reason I hated kh3 was the gameplay, I still can't belive I feel asleep in the middle of playing the game. yeah critical mode fixed that but that should have been the gameplay at launch

My hot takes: 1. I agree that KH Re: Coded is a good game, gameplay wise and is one of my guilty pleasure games out of the series alongside KH3Ds. 2. KH3 is about a 6.5 or a 7 for me, mainly because it’s visuals and gameplay and some story elements. But the combat is way too easy before they added the Pro Codes, and the story is all over the place. I kind of wish they didn’t add the attraction flow mechanic and just kept everything else combat wise. And this is crazy considering I cried like a baby at the end of this game. 3. I did NOT like Riku in the first game, and made me not like him up until the end. But what really made me like him again, and dare I say fan over him was his redemption in KH2. And also his style rocks in that game too.
