exactly thats why i hate the 5th film, he is so mischaracterized. His character is build on the fact that despite being a drunk pirate and only appearing dumb and silly, he is in fact clever and strategist. They left that completely. And also made him a side character.

The 5th movie was so bad. They went back on the pre established lore that calypso/tia dalma gave Jack the compass. He’s given the compass away more than once. It’s said that Jones is all “tentacley” because he stopped carrying the dead but Will starts to turn at the beginning of the 5th movie and Will would not abandon his duty if for no other reason than looking his best for Elizabeth. And if he was abandoning his duties he would have gone to save Henry. He would not have let his son be in danger if he wasn’t being held up.

Johnny Depp himself had almost no creative input with 5th movie, unlike in the previous ones. I believe the creators were also trying to make the “next generation” a thing.
