Ian isn't suitable anymore. One because he is notably too old now; Lev is 13, and while Bella played a young Ellie they cast them because they needed someone who could play an older Ellie in the next season as well. So that's different. Bella also looks and sounds younger when they filmed season 1, but Ian does sound older. It just is what it is. Also his voice is different now, presumably since going through hormone therapy. While trans, Lev hasn't transitioned yet (and wouldn't have access to in TLOU world) so he won't have the voice change that Ian now has. The ambiguity is an important piece to the story.

people saying that theyre too old are acting as if any of the actors are the same age as their character😭 teens get played by people in their 20 till even 30s so often who cares
