@drwilloughjenkins: As a child psychiatrist, one pattern I encourage parents to talk to kids about is love bombing. This is when someone is given intense positive attention and connection very quickly. It might look like: • immediate praise and validation • fast emotional closeness • strong encouragement to stay engaged with the group This works because it meets a very real need, especially in teens: the need to belong. There is nothing wrong with wanting connection. But when connection happens very quickly and intensely, it is worth slowing down and staying curious. Helping kids understand this helps them enjoy relationships while still thinking independently. Next, we’ll talk about a common pattern called us vs them thinking. More of this please! I am worried mine is being too (…. Ugh… for lack of a better word…) intense in his relationship. Love bombing, wanting constant check-ins, if they don’t respond right away - it’s an issue. I’ve tried talking gently to talk him down, but no luck. Any advice?
