Some forms of maturity genuinely require time and experience. You cannot "choose" to have the perspective that comes from losing a parent, raising children through difficulty, or navigating 40 years of relationships. Time itself teaches things choice alone cannot access. Maturity is interaction between time, experience, choice, circumstances, capacity, and reflection. Not any single factor alone.

I disagree slightly. Sometimes a person is so infested with past trauma, that maturity doesn’t even form part of the lexicon. Granted, with trauma counselling, maturity will appear on the horizon. Then only the person regrets the time wasted.
