It's so funny from the kids perspective in the book. He's gone for a few days, comes back, and like 5 minutes into class he bolts out and says his class is now a study hall.

In the book, he literally walks out in the middle of teaching and while the motivation was so valid, the action really took me out of it. That man would absolutely be sending in sub plans at weird hours to the long term sub til the end of that school year.

my mom used to be the sub they called when the stem teachers were out and one time the calculus teacher went on maternity leave and it was the highlight of her sub career. I'd like to believe his district had a sub like her.

My thing is as a teacher this didn’t take me out of it because like. He probably just quit on the spot one day into being recruited for this project. Like teaching jobs? Not that hard to get. Saving the world? Slightly more fun for him I think
