@paulabflory: I just got a call that I have RSV. I went to urgent care just because I wanted to make sure I didn’t have strep or something like because my throat was hurting and it turned out that they did a swab and I have RSV. I babysit my granddaughter two days a week and was super super careful to try to keep my germs away from her and she probably was exposed prior to my even knowing that I had a cough. So the last few days, I was trying my best to protect her from this but I just got a call that she does have symptoms. They have a nanny that comes two days a week when I’m not there with her. And the nanny texted me and told me that the baby was coughing and not feeling well. And right after that, I got a call that my swab came back and I have RSV and now I’m really freaking out. She’s an otherwise very healthy child and I just feel so horribly guilty and so worried about her. Are there any other moms or grandmom’s out there that have the same inability to control their anxiety about illness. I’m not going to allow myself to spiral and crash. I have to keep it in check. I think my lesson here is that I need to listen to my body more and when I don’t feel well, I should probably just stay home and not babysit. I should have trusted that my son and daughter-in-law would’ve figured out a way to get childcare for her and not forced myself to get there and stay with her. My guilt is overtaking me. I mean, I feel OK but I’m an adult. So incredibly worried. I just hope and pray that she just gets a mild case. And honestly, she might not have even gotten it from me because I take her to gymnastics, and the kids are coughing and snorting all over the place! I have to remember that life isn’t always perfect, that children get sick, and that we get through this.
