@ntforge: Grinding the profile into a knife made from the upper jaw of a pipe wrench. the more complex shape, which includes a thumb ramp, makes for a very satisfying grind. These pipe wrench upper jaws vary in how hard they can get, but this one hardened well. This step is done with a 2hp 2x72 belt sander and a 36 grit ceramic belt that is too worn down for grinding the faces of the knife blade.
